Me, Myself and trIpod. (Stupid Pun)

These are a few photos that I took my in 2009 during exam week, this is how I spent my time. I don't know where the inspiration came from but the method I used is one that I want to explore more in my photography to add interest and meaning.

This one was taken at least 10 times before I got one that I enjoyed, it had an ISO of 100 with an f stop of 5. The most important piece of this picture was the shutter speed which was at 20 seconds. Because of the long shutter speed it was difficult to get the results I wanted and I needed a lot of patience to get one good image. The idea was just to show that there are two sides to me, and both make up my whole self.

Family Portrait

This one is named The Child Inside because it is similar to the other one although the idea is slightly different, I made this one to show how sometimes we have to be serious but at the same time we are all still children. This one had an ISO of 100, an f stop of 5 with a shutter speed of 30 seconds. This image was particularly hard to create because I had to sit still for about 13 seconds in one position, then throw the book and paper away and grab the coloring book and crayons while trying to get set and hold still for another 13 seconds. This one took about 10 tries to do, and is my favorite self portrait.

Bridge

This is a picture that was taken one day in January in 2009. The ISO is 100, with an f stop of 4 taken at a shutter speed of 1/400 of a second. This picture was taken because I liked the way the bars looked from this perspective. I set my camera on Aperture Priority Mode and kept messing with the aperture to adjust the field of focus. This was the best one that came of the set.
Unfortunately there is no deep meaning behind this photo, but I still think it looks cool and I like the way the snow is undisturbed on the railing.

It's A Bridge  F/4
This picture is the exact same in every way, except the f stop for this picture is 6.3. The difference between the two is barely noticeable unless you click on the images to make them larger, and then it still is hard to tell but the first one is focused much closer. It becomes very apparent when you look at the fence in the background.

Dead Rose

This picture was taken in April of 2009. It was taken with an ISO of 200, with an f stop of 5.6 at a shutter speed of 1/80 a second. I took this picture after I took the roses that my brother was throwing out. He had recently broken up with his girlfriend that he had been dating for a while, and it was kinda weird that she wasnt around anymore. She gave him these roses on Valentines Day that year. The idea is similar to the idea of the sunflower flower picture (even though this one was a year earlier), where it seemed to me that they weren't together anymore so the rose had lost its life.

Its a Dead, Rose

Rose?

This is a picture of a rose that I took when I traveled to this Park of Rose near Columbus. It was taken about noon-ish when a friend and I decided to go photograph whatever we could find. It was taken in August of 2009 with my Sony a200. It was taken with an ISO of 100 with the aperture at f/5.6 at a shutter speed of 1/160 of a second. It was taken with my 75-300mm lens at about 230mm.
The main adjustment that I made to this photo was brightening the red of the petals and blurry out the background. I would put this photo in my Top Ten favorite of that summer.

Shake Well

This picture was taken one night when it was too cold to actually spray paint so I just organized my paint cans, I ended up with this picture because I realized that I had a lot of colors and they looked cool from above. After taking the picture I put it into Aperture and starting  adjusting the contrast and saturation.
I changed the exposure in Aperture to make it a little more luminescent and also used the curves tool to make the red deeper. The B&W version has all the same tweaks with the addition of a B&W filter.

This picture was originally taken with an ISO of 400, an f stop of 6.3 at a shutter speed of 1/125 of a second. It was taken with my Sony a200 with my 18 - 70mm lens.

FIshing Chair

This entry is showing the before and after of an image I took in florida.

After straightening, adding a sepia tone, and messing with the contrast using curves... I had this image.

Animals

These are a few photos I found that I took in December of 2009, around the first week I had my camera.
All are of

1st. The image of my dog, Maggie, was taken in my family room while the little amount of winter sunlight hit her face. I used curves to brighten the sun spot and to deepen the black of her nose. I also used a sepia filter for dramatic effect. If I could retake the picture I would try to include the lower part of her paw, and try to reposition where the light hit her face. It was taken at an ISO of 100, an f stop of 2 with a shutter speed of 1/80 of a second.
2nd. The image of my dog "posing" was also taken that same night in December. I love how the light hits her face and how she is looking away from the camera, very majestic like. It was taken at an ISO of 100, with an f stop of 2 at a shutter speed of 1/80 of a second.
3rd. This image is of my other dog, Max, and it was also taken that same night just at a different time. This time I also had the room lights on because it was night, which does not give such a dramatic look but more of a real look. The position my dog is in reminds me of the Great Sphinx of Giza. If I could retake the image I would take off my dogs collar, because I think it takes away from the image.
4th. This picture was taken a split second before my cat was able to sneeze on my lens. It was originally taken in B&W and I didnt actually edit it at all. It was taken at an ISO of 400, with an f stop of 8 at a shutter speed of 1/60 of a second.
